Total responsibility for managing special sections on environmental, scientific, historical, and social issues. Intensive client contact. Plan magazine content; assign stories; work with authors, photographers and graphic designers on text and layout; write features.

DEVELOPER/WEBMASTER (since 1996) of magazine's World Wide Web site. Plan web strategy; expand e-commerce and revenue streams; interpret and apply web statistics; maintain site.

* Developed concepts, arranged financing, and directed all aspects of editorial, production and marketing for eight- to 32-page special sections highlighting department policies and programs. Of the 50+ sections I worked on, more than half were reprinted due to public demand.

* Created magazine's award-winning web site www.wnrmag.com offering online subscriptions, renewals and customer contact. Page views per day, June 1996: 15. Page views per day, June 2000: 3,500

* Raised magazine to a new level of readability by focusing on the reader's need for clarity and brevity when presented with complex technical and scientific topics.

* Generated strategies to raise circulation from 76,000 in 1988 to 120,000 in 2000.

* Conceived and conducted extensive market research program using focus groups and a 500-person survey pool. Data amassed was used to fine-tune editorial content and plan new marketing strategies.

* Instituted use of networked computer technology, speeding transfer of stories, increasing options for creative page layout, and allowing for better handling of photo archive and story files.

* Spearheaded integration of technology into agency activities; charged with introducing new department programs to the public.
